![]() ![]() However it is a very close race, you will be pleased with either. Hi Batman, because of the 3 0ptions you give I assume it doesn’t need to be waterproof, therefore I recommend “Higgins Eternal” as meeting all your needs, however as you suspected the “Pelikan India ink” (which is not really India ink at all ! lacking a shellac base !) is very good too.The pelican wins because of it’s sublime qualities when used for wash techniques. The eternal wins for it’s deep blackness of colour. Those being Aurora Black, Noodler’s Black, and Pelikan India Ink. ![]() There are 3 different types I’m looking at right now, which come closest, according to reviews on the web. I recently tried the Ph Martin Black Star Matte Ink, which is a super-dark black, but (contrary to the title) the gloss, sheen, and brush strokes are very noticeable, even without direct light! I have the Daler-Rowney Black Acrylic Ink which is good–only “medium” gloss–but it’s not very dark, as it turns out. I have tried two different types so far, both of which are quality black inks but don’t satisfy both conditions. The only thing that matters is “very dark, very matte” with archival quality. In this case I would be using it with a brush and so whether it works with fountain/dip pens is not a concern, feathering, waterproof, and bleed-through are not concerns, etc. Just as described in the title, I’m looking for a very dark, saturated black ink which also dries with little-to-no sheen. ![]()
